Its aim is to empower youth from economically disadvantaged backrounds through after-school and summer programs focusing on the arts, literacy and improving communication skills and self-image. I teach percussion there two days a week. Summer 2003: Music and Dance Instructor, Putney Student Travel's Cuba Excel Program Putney Student Travel's Cuba Excel program brought over 80 high school students from all over the country to Havana for a month long immersion into Cuban culture and society. As music and dance instructor I was able to teach afro-cuban percussion, hire expert locals for special workshops and lectures and organize field trips to cultural events in Havana. April 2002 - Present: Percussion teacher, Bank Street College Once a week, I teach both group class and private students aged 6 to 10 in the basics of rhythm, music and in particular, West African percussion. November 2002-Spring 2003: Percussionist and organizer of African Dance program at Marte Valle Junior High School (PS 145) Once a week, the students of PS 145 have the opportunity to be exposed to the traditional rhythms and dances of West Africa.
